DISCOVERING ASHAVAN
by Farishta Murzban Dinshaw

Discovering Ashavan, written by Farishta Murzban Dinshaw, is about a
lame orphan Ashavan who lived in Iran 4000 years ago. A midnight brawl
leads to him being accused of sorcery by a superstitious community.
Ashavan is befriended by young Zarathushtra Spitama who helps Ashavan
face his fears and recognise his strengths, hence the title of the book.
Eleven pen and ink sketches by Karachi's reputed artist, Homi Meherhomji,
illustrate the story beautifully.
All proceeds from this book are gifted by Farishta Dinshaw to Karachi
Zarathushti Banu Mandal, the publishers, who will use if for educational
projects.
Bapsi Sidhwa, acclaimed author says: Dinshaw brings the past vividly
to life. She also manages to bring Zarathushtra down-to-earth: and,
in doing so, makes him accessible. It is creditable that Dinshaw accomplishes
this without adopting a high moral tone or sounding the least bit preachy.
She has adroitly woven myth and magic into a tension-filled, lively
and suspenseful story.
